Working too hard?

In the current climate of job insecurity, many of us are working too hard and doing more overtime than is strictly good for us. Here are some of the common warning signs.

  • You are in the kitchen making dinner and the phone rings. You automatically say: "X and Co, how can I help you?"
  • Your pets start looking thinner, then fail to recognise you, and finally run away (even the goldfish).
  • Workmates ask you if you saw the latest film or something on last night's telly, and you stare back at them blankly, before asking: "What is telly?"
  • You get RSI in your wrist, and fail to see why everybody else in the office finds it so amusing.
  • You are at home and decide to call your mother. You press "9" before you dial out.
  • Your girlfriend/boyfriend moves out, taking all their stuff, and you only notice six days later because you can't find the coffee machine.
  • The designated 'best friend' line on your mobile phone is your office number.
  • You can't remember what your best friend even looks like, but you're sure you know where they live. Well, fairly sure.
  • The only two things that happen at bedtime are extra paperwork or the sleep of the terminally exhausted.
  • You think it would be a cool idea to keep a sleeping bag under your desk.
  • You think all your colleagues are late for work, how typically irresponsible and lazy of them - then realise you have come in on a bank holiday by mistake.
