Question

What help is available for CMT?

Answer

According to CMT United Kingdom, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a condition that affects the nerves in the legs and arms. These nerves are known as the peripheral nerves. CMT can affect different people in different ways, is not life threatening but is progressive (it slowly gets worse over time). CMT causes gradual deterioration of the both the motor nerves and the sensory nerves, this can result in a wide range of symptoms.

Unfortunately there is no cure for CMT; however there are several techniques which can be used to manage this condition. These include general health tips, exercise/physiotherapy, pain management and breathing techniques.

CMT UK website also state that sometimes people with CMT are told there is no cure or treatment and to go away and deal with it. They explain that carrying out the management strategies could help you avoid problems with CMT and be able to lead a healthier and fuller life.
